A typical sodium silicofluoride package might operate as follows: From the storage hopper the powder is fed via a ProMinent dry chemical feeder into the mixing tank. Vacuum Loader (25 kg bags) The ProMinent vacuum transfer system is designed to transfer powder from 25 kg bags to the hopper. The suction wand is inserted in the bag and the air is drawn upwards through a filter to remove any powder particles that are still airborne, before leaving the unit via the vacuum motor. As the powder enters the collection unit, the large volume inside the unit causes the air velocity to drop, allowing the powder to fall to the bottom of the unit. A pneumatically actuated valve at the bottom of the collection unit is used to dump the collected powder into the hopper. A second valve on the suction side prevents powder from blowing out of the wand during the cleaning cycle. Vacuum Loader from top of Bulk Bag A bulk bag vacuum system safely transfers the fluoride powder to the day hopper by unloading from the top of a bulk bag. System operates as follows: A bulk bag is loaded by the operator into the bulk bag trolley via a forklift. The vacuum blower is started and the outlet of the bag is clamped by the operator to the inner connection and the bag tie is then removed. Fluoride powder is then drawn from the bulk bag by the vacuum transfer system through the suction wand to one of the 2 vacuum chambers mounted on top of the storage hopper. After a preset time, operation is switched to the second vacuum chamber for vacuuming and the powder collected allowed to fall into the hopper. After a short dwell time, the first vacuum chamber is purged with compressed air to clean the internal filter screen. When the second chamber is finished, same happens and operation switches back to the first. Operation will continue to swap between each of the vacuum chambers until vacuuming is stopped. Crane and Hoist Bulk Bag Unloader A bag is placed on the lifting frame by attaching all 4 hooks to the top of the bag. The over-head crane is then used to lift the bulk bag over the intermediate "floor" hopper for transferring to the storage hopper ready for metering into the water supply

By keeping excess sodium fluoride powder in a dissolving tank, a constant 4% sodium fluoride saturated solution is maintained. This is then dosed into the water supply, via a metering pump, in proportion to the mains 4-20 milliamp flow signal. The saturator comes as a package all mounted suitable for ease of installation complete with overflow, drain, calibration cylinder, isolation valves and metering pump. Two loading packages are offered. For the smaller plants ProMinent offer their patented 5kg jar loader, for larger plants a vacuum loader. 5kg Jar ProMinent designed and patented a special loader to accept 5kg sealed NaF containers, slice the seal, and allow the powder to dump into the saturator tank. The container can then be flushed, by the push of a button, with clean water to allow the jar to be easily disposed of. Vacuum Loader The vacuum loader especially designed for fluoride, is mounted on the saturator and comes complete with dust extractor, suction wand and a flexible hose. The ProMinent vacuum transfer system is designed to transfer powder from the 25kg bags to the solution tank. With the vacuum loader switched on, the wand is inserted into the container or open bag. The vacuum motor will operate for approx 40 seconds before stopping, the inlet valve will close, and the dump valve will open, allowing the collected powder to drop into the hopper. A cleaning cycle will then begin. Once the cleaning cycle has completed, the dump valve will close, the inlet valve will open and the vacuum motor will start again. Two mandatory flow switches are required. One is taken off the 4-20 mA flow signal via the PLC, the other is normally a mechanical flow switch fitted in the mains water pipeline. A calibration cylinder is provided to accurately calibrate the metering pump against the dosing conditions. The metering pump is code locked to the maximum capacity to prevent overdosing. The metering pump is set to display the total amount dosed. This is compared daily against the total water flow to ensure correct dosing has occurred.

Tank will have inlet, outlet, overflow and drain connections, necessary level switches, mounting for the vacuum loader and a slow speed stirrer. The ProMinent vacuum transfer system easily allows the operator to unload the soda ash from the 25 kg bags and dump into the tank. The suction wand is inserted in the bag and the soda ash is drawn into the chamber. As the powder enters the collection unit, the large volume inside the unit causes the air velocity to drop, and the powder falls to the bottom of the unit. Air is drawn upwards through a filter to remove any powder particles that are still airborne before leaving the unit via the vacuum motor. The vacuum loader is mounted on the PE tank and comes complete with built in dust extractor, suction wand and flexible suction hose. It is fitted with positively actuated valves on vacuum hose inlet and dump valve. These positively closing valves eliminate the chance of inadvertent blowback down suction lance or pressurising the hopper during the filter cleaning cycle. There is the requirement for air to operate the dump valve and to back flush the filter.
